This article is about a referee that killed a player after being confronted by him when giving him a red card. He apparently wasn't going to take it and sunk a knife into his body, which was confirmed by the local police there in Maranhao. It got worse though. While the player was being rushed to the hospital, members of his family took the field and supposedly tied him up with the help of the fans. They then did inhuman things and tortured him. After the family found out their son was dead, they immediately took it out on him by stoning him to death and then cutting his body up.
To me this is unbelievable that something like this could happen. It is obviously unfortunate that two people had to die for a minor argument. To me this shows how much Brazilians care about there sport, to the point that they would kill each other over it. It also shows that people there are very cautious since the referee kept a knife on him during the game. All in all to me it is stupid to kill each other over a soccer game but to them soccer is probably the biggest part of culture.
This article and story is tied to Brazilian culture in one major way, soccer. In Brazil soccer is the biggest thing to them. It is the top played sport there by far and the kids are involved in it from birth. Many Brazilians tend to take it very seriously which can often lead to fights and sometimes death. There have been many deaths over people either playing soccer, or trying to defend their favorite team. Although Brazil is coming up big in society, the crime there is still an extremely big factor in society. All in all, I think we can agree that Brazilians really love soccer and keep it close in their hearts in their culture.
